Legal regulations of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism regarding tourism education and in this direction, with the “Tourist Guiding Profession Law No.6326” published in the Official Gazette in 22.06.2012, the requirement that people who will work as guides in this field must “graduate from the relevant departments of universities (tourism guidance)” considering both legally and the tourist profile and tourism potential of our country has increased the need for related departments. In addition to this, according to the "1618 Association of Travel Agencies Law", the fact that any group (both local and foreign, school union community trips and independent group trips) cannot create and participate in a tour program without a tour guide, and accordingly, Travel Agencies can organize related tours and they are the only authorized institution and they have to employ guides on these tours also increase the need for tourist guides.
On the other hand, it is clear that more than 10 tourism guidance programs that are offered education at university level across Turkey are not enough to meet this need considering Turkey and Samsun's tourism potential and gradually increasing the number of tourists and needed guidance needs. In addition to this, considering the potential of Samsun and the Black Sea in terms of tourism and the prospective increase in the number of foreign tourists coming to the region as well as domestic tourists, who know and introduce this region well and have the necessary professional knowledge and practice and language knowledge also highlights the need for guides.
Besides being equipped at a level to provide guidance throughout Turkey it will also fill an important gap in guidance services specifically on a regional basis. In addition to the tourism guidance profession, students who graduate from the tourism guidance department have the opportunity to be employed as an information officer and responsible manager in a group A travel agency if they pass the "Information Officer and Foreign Language Exam" which is made by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Association of Travel Agencies. Also, among the graduates of the department, those who get enough points from the Public Personnel Selection Exam also have employment opportunities in other public institutions.
Graduates who do not want to work in public institutions and organizations will also have employment opportunities in middle and senior management positions in any of the tourism businesses, especially in travel businesses, with the tourism education they have received. In addition, graduates who want to pursue an academic career can work as a lecturer in a program of any university if they meet the necessary conditions. In addition to this, there are pedagogical formation education that they can get in education faculties, as well as opportunities to become a vocational course teacher in secondary education institutions.
