The "Crypto Markets" event, organized by the Tourism Management Department of the Faculty of Tourism on May 10, 2023, via Google Meet at 2:00 PM, was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayben KOY and Instructor Yaşar GÜLTEKİN.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayben KOY provided information on the evaluation of cryptocurrencies as investment instruments, their operating mechanisms, cryptocurrency exchanges, and the use and prevalence of cryptocurrencies in Turkey. She emphasized that despite restrictions on cryptocurrencies, CBDCs (central bank digital currencies) are now being rapidly developed in developed and developing economies, and stated that necessary studies on this topic are ongoing in our country.
Speaking about the future of the cryptocurrency market, KOY stated that "purchasing goods and services with cryptocurrencies has become widespread." He noted that while thousands of cryptocurrencies exist, the extent to which they will survive in the future depends on general acceptance, and that not all of them may be viable within the next five years.
Instructor Yaşar Gültekin compared fiat currency and cryptocurrency to a question, explaining that cryptocurrencies can be used like fiat currency in buying and selling transactions, and that buying and selling them in exchange for a fiat currency is feasible.
The event concluded with the audience answering questions posed to the participants.
